ASM’s Seafarer Portal is a smart solution that accompanies our seafarers during their employment journey with one goal: making their professional lives easier and smoother by putting everything they need in one place. The Seafarer Portal is available to all our seafarers as a mobile phone application as well as on the web. It provides effortless and easy access to all essential documents, training schedules, vessel assignment plans, payslips and allotments, company news & announcements, and direct communication with shore crewing departments.
Our seafarers are at the heart of ASM’s ship management operations and like any shore job, being paid on time is key. We’ve digitalised this function via ASMPay, a digital payment platform provided by our partner Shipmoney that enables seafarers to receive funds in real-time, and send money home, exchange money at best trading rates, and withdraw cash at most ATMs worldwide. This reduces cash to master requirements and the associated security requirements and costs.
ASM’s quality document management system (QDMS) increases safety and security on our full managed vessels by providing permanent access to ASM procedures and guidance to perform tasks compliant with industry standards and regulations. QDMS provides staff synchronised access to all the latest company procedures, manuals, and documents anytime, anywhere on the web and mobile. Even with limited internet connection on-board , the offline QDMS version allows users to get hold of ASM company documents, manuals and procedures.
eRBooks allows owners and managers to maintain an effective, real-time oversight of shipboard environmental records while being compliant with the given guidelines. The module ensures data exchange between sea and shore through regular updates. This makes environmental record book data digitally available anywhere at anytime.
eRBooks is web-based on the vessel’s intranet, but also available on iOS and Android. The digitalised version of the record books reduces administrative workload for the crew, ensures complete entries and minimises the error rate through various automatic control and plausibility mechanisms.
Smart Maintenance is ASM’s vision for reliable vessel operations through a proactive maintenance system, harvesting the benefits of Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) diagnosis. Using CBM as the core of our Maintenance Strategy will allow ASM to move from the present Preventive Maintenance Philosophy to Predictive Maintenance and finally to the more advanced type, the Reliability Centered Maintenance. The project was initiated to eliminate unplanned failures and related repair costs with early detection of equipment failures and at the same time extend overhaul periods while the vessel’s equipment is still functioning properly.
Through Smart Maintenance, ASM aims to increase the reliability and safety of our managed fleet’s machinery and equipment, reduce downtime, extend overhaul intervals, increase crew safety by reducing mechanical incidents as well as the availability and low price of spare parts by predicting when these will be needed.
Together with Signol, a London-based startup, we are exploring the role of behavior-based data science in reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions of the vessels.
Our operational data analytics per vessel will be combined with behavioral science in a dedicated app, creating personalised targets and feedback for each crew member to positively impact their behavior in selecting the optimum speed for the vessel and ultimately lead to more fuel-efficient voyages.
ASM is constantly exploring new technological developments that can add to safe ship management. One of these developments is a trial with Eye Captain, a situational awareness solution that provides a 360-degree watch from any vessel and enhances navigational safety. Eye Captain provides key insights to the bridge and the captain in situations such as collision avoidance.
